Matt Reeves added another name to The Batman cast list on Friday. The director confirmed that Peter Sarsgaard joined the cast, but did not confirm his character. Sarsgaard is the latest name added to the Warner Bros. Pictures reboot of the dark knight, which has Matt Reeves directing and Robert Pattinson playing Batman. Other names on the list include Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Pennyworth, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Colin Farrell as the notorious Penguin. It was also announced that John Turturro is playing Carmine Falcone, and Jeffrey Wright will take over as Commissioner Gordon. Sarsgaard could be playing Harvey Dent, or Two-Face, but we will have to wait for confirmation from the studio.
The casting was announced on Twitter, just before The Batman goes into production. Warner Bros. Pictures is hoping to have the movie ready to release on June 25, 2020, just in time for the height of the summer box office. If everything goes according to plan, Pattinson and his pals could be starring in the next three installments.
The next DC installment is Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, which hits theaters in February. The movie features an all-star cast, including Margot Robbie as Harley, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain. It has also been reported that Chris Messina will be playing the role of Victor Zsasz in the film.
Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 is still on track for a June 5th release, but we haven’t seen any full-length trailers for the film yet. Pedro Pascal, Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, and Kristen Wiig will star in that sequel. Warner Bros. Pictures also has The Suicide Squad on the schedule, which is a sequel to the 2016 hit Suicide Squad. That movie is scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021 with James Gunn directing that movie. Gunn is making the jump from Marvel to DC for the project, and he is writing the screenplay. The original Suicide Squad was directed and written by David Ayer and featured Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jared Leto, Ezra Miller, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Cara Delevingne, and Joel Kinnaman. The movie saw mixed reviews, but Suicide Squad made over $325M domestically before going on to make over $750M worldwide.
