Disney Maleficent: Mistress of Evil digital release date is now scheduled for December 31st, followed by the 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on January 14th. The movie is the sequel to Disney’s 2014 hit Maleficent, and stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent and Elle Fanning as her goddaughter Aurora. The movie also features Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein, Harris Dickinson, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Joachim Rønning directed the sequel for the studio, which topped the box office charts with a $36M domestic debut and made over $480.6M worldwide. Robert Stromberg directed the original, and that movie helped launch the live-action franchise for Disney. The original made $69.4M on its opening weekend and went on to gross over $758.5M for the studio.
The official description reads, “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil carries on the story of Disney’s most iconic villain. The years have been kind to Maleficent and Aurora. Their relationship, born of heartbreak, revenge and ultimately love, has flourished. Yet hatred between man and the fairies still exists. Aurora’s impending marriage to Prince Philip is cause for celebration as the wedding serves to unite the Kingdom of Ulstead and the neighboring Moors. But, when an unexpected encounter introduces a powerful new alliance, Maleficent and Aurora are pulled apart to opposing sides in a Great War, testing their loyalties and causing them to question whether they can truly be a family.”
The movie will be ready to help ring in the new year for Disney fans. The company’s next big release is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 20th, followed by the 20th Century FOX animated-comedy Spies in Disguise on December 25th.
