Universal Pictures confirmed The Addams Family digital release date on Wednesday morning. The animated-comedy will release on digital on December 24th, followed by the Blu-ray, DVD, and On-Demand versions on January 21st.
The movie is the first full-length animated adaptation of the unconventional family. Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan directed the film, which features the voice talents of Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Snoop Dogg, Bette Midler, and Allison Janney. The movie was also recently nominated for two Annie Awards, including “Best Character Design – Feature” and “Best Production Design – Feature.”
The Addams Family released back in October, and the film had a $30M domestic opening weekend before making over $179.9M at the global box office. The official description for the movie reads, “”Get ready to snap your fingers! The first family of Halloween, the Addams Family, is back on the big screen in the first animated comedy about the kookiest family on the block. Funny, outlandish, and completely iconic, the Addams Family redefines what it means to be a good neighbor.”
The animated-comedy was an instant hit, and its debut matched the live-action adaptations. Paramount Pictures released the live-action The Addams Family in 1991, and that movie topped the box office with a $29M debut and made over $191M worldwide for the studio. Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, the film starred Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Dan Hedaya, and Christina Ricci. The success of the film launched Addams Family Values in 1993, and the movie made over $48M worldwide. Sonnenfeld returned to direct the sequel, which featured Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Joan Cusack, and Christina Ricci.
