BBC America set a premiere date for “Doctor Who Season 12.” The network released a teaser trailer for the new season last week and dropped an official trailer for the new episodes to confirm the premiere. If you want to set a reminder, the new season starts on New Year’s Day, with a special adventure.
Jodie Whittaker is returning to the series to reprise her role as the Doctor, and the new season will start with a two-part special called “Spyfall.” Whovians can rewatch the Christmas specials of yesteryear starting on December 24th, and binge through a marathon that runs all the way through Christmas Day. After the Christmas marathon, you’ll get a marathon of new Doctors starting with Peter Capaldi. After Capaldi, you’ll go adventures with Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith. That marathon will take you right up to the New Year’s special on January 1st. An entire week of Doctor Who should be enough to hold you over until the start of Season 12.
The upcoming New Year’s episode was written by Chris Chibnall and directed by Wayne Yip (Preacher, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency). The network teased the episode adding, “As the New Year begins, a terrifying evil is stirring from across the centuries of Earth’s history. Will the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz be able to overcome this threat to Planet Earth?”
Doctor Who is executive produced by showrunner Chris Chibnall and Matt Strevens. Season 12 features guest stars include Stephen Fry and Lenny Henry. The new season will also feature Mandip Gill as Yasmin, Tosin Cole as Ryan, and Bradley Walsh as Graham.
