Disney’s “Frozen 2” brought in over $14.7M on Thanksgiving Day, taking a comfortable lead against its competitors. The animated sequel has already passed the $202M mark domestically, and it could reach $225M by the end of the week. The new movies scheduled to debut this weekend include the mystery-thriller “Knives Out,” and the drama “Queen & Slim.” Lionsgate’s “Knives Out” landed in second-place on Turkey Day, bringing in $6.2M across 3,391 locations. The new release pushed “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” to third-place with $3.1M, and “Ford v Ferrari” took fourth-place with $2.8M on the day. The drama “Queen & Slim” debuted in fifth-place overall, bringing in $2.3M across 1,625 locations.

Melina Matsoukas directed “Queen & Slim,” and the movie features Jodie Turner-Smith, ChloĆ« Sevigny, Daniel Kaluuya, Indya Moore, Bokeem Woodbine, and Karen Kaia Livers. Rian Johnson wrote and directed “Knives Out,” and the movie stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Noah Segan, Edi Patterson, Riki Lindhome, Jaeden Martell, and Christopher Plummer. Both films are hoping that “Frozen 2” doesn’t overshadow their opening weekend, before “Playmobile: The Movie,” “Jumanji 2,” “Richard Jewell,” “Uncut Gems,” “Bombshell,” and “Black Christmas” hit theaters in early December.

“Frozen 2” will have to gross over $1.274B at the global box office to top the original. Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee directed “Frozen 2” for the studio, and the film features the voice talents of Evan Rachel Wood, Kristen Bell, Sterling K. Brown, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Idina Menzel. Disney also has “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” on the horizon. That movie will close out the Skywalker story and is scheduled to release on December 20th. Universal Pictures is releasing “CATS” against the new Star Wars film, which should be an interesting match-up ahead of the holiday weekend.
