BBC America started teasing the twelfth season of “Doctor Who,” which has Jodie Whittaker returning to the iconic role. Joining the Doctor in the new season are her trusty companions, Mandip Gill as Yasmin, Tosin Cole as Ryan, and Bradley Walsh as Graham. The network stopped short of confirming a premiere date for the new season, and right now, fans will have to be happy with “Early 2020.” BBC America did release a trailer for Doctor Who Season 12, which is going to begin after this year’s special episode.

In previous years, “Doctor Who” always aired a special Christmas episode, but this year, the Doctor is moving to New Year’s Eve to switch things up. That special episode is airing on Tuesday, January 1st, and the network is hosting a “Who Year’s Day” marathon leading up to the premiere. If Doctor Who is part of your holiday tradition, don’t worry, you can rewatch the Christmas specials starting on Monday, December 24th, and the marathon runs all the way through Christmas Day. After the Christmas marathon, you’ll get a marathon of new Doctors starting with Peter Capaldi. After Capaldi, you’ll go adventures with Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith. That marathon will take you right up to the New Year’s special on January 1st, completing your Doctor Who binge. The all-new New Year’s episode was written by Chris Chibnall and directed by Wayne Yip (Preacher, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency). The network teased the episode adding, “As the New Year begins, a terrifying evil is stirring from across the centuries of Earth’s history. Will the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz be able to overcome this threat to Planet Earth?”

After the New Year’s Eve special, we don’t know how long we have to wait until the premiere of Doctor Who Season 12. We imagine that detail will be announced after the New Year’s special.
