Emmy Award winner John Mulaney has a new special coming to Netflix called “John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch.” According to the network, the special “aims to recapture the magic of that bygone television era when children sang songs about their feelings with celebrity guests on funky outdoor sets.” Netflix released a first look photo from the set, and confirmed a late December premiere date.

In the announcement Mulaney added, “I’m John Mulaney and I am a 37 year old man. The Sack Lunch Bunch is a group of children ages 8-13 who are more talented than me. In this special, we are joined by celebrity guests like David Byrne, Tony Award Winner Andre De Shields, Natasha Lyonne, Annaleigh Ashford, Shereen Pimentel, Richard Kind, and Jake Gyllenhaal from the movie Zodiac.” He continued, “The result is a collage of Broadway caliber showstoppers, comedy sketches for all ages, meditations on the unknown from children and adults, and a papier mache volcano. It’s funny, musical, joyous, anxious, and surprisingly profound.”

Rhys Thomas directed the special for Netflix, and he also worked on “Documentary Now,” “SNL,” and “John Mulaney: The Comeback Kid.” If you want to set a reminder, “John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch” is scheduled to debut on Netflix on December 24th, and you can currently watch “John Mulaney: The Comeback Kid” and “John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City” on Netflix.

The other non-holiday series and shows coming to Netflix in December include Ryan Reynolds’ “6 Underground,” “The Two Popes,” and “Lost in Space: Season 2.” Netflix has several other big projects scheduled to release over the next few months, like “The Witcher” adaptation, “Green Eggs and Ham,” ” Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings,” and “To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.”
