Paramount Pictures is back with another “Sonic The Hedgehog” trailer. The CG team that created the original Sonic for the movie went back to the lab to redesign the blue hero after viewers complained about the character’s look. Now Sonic is back, and he has bigger eyes and a different mouth. Like it or not, this is going to be the final version of the speedster, because the movie is racing into theaters in just a few months.
The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on February 14th, giving tiny moviegoers something to watch over the holiday weekend. The film is based on the videogame franchise from Sega, so younger parents and their kids will get to enjoy a character they both know. The story follows the iconic hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth and battles a familiar foe. In the movie, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and stop his plans for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter, and Ben Schwartz voices Sonic in the movie.
“Sonic The Hedgehog” has the advantage of being one of the only family-friendly movies releasing over the holiday, but the weekend is crowded. FOX is releasing “The King’s Man” prequel against Sony Pictures’ “Fantasy Island” thriller with Lucy Hale, and “What About Love” with Sharon Stone and Andy Garcia is opening against “Ordinary Love” with Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville. This is all one week after “Birds of Prey” hits theaters, which could win the weekend again in its second week, and one week after the horror-thriller “The Lodge.”
As we mentioned earlier, February is overrun with horror-thrillers, and “Sonic the Hedgehog” is the top family-friendly movie at the box office that month. That could give the movie an edge for a few weeks, but it does limit the options that younger viewers have if they want to hit the movies.
