The movie did very well in theaters and opened in September with a $31M domestic debut. The movie went on to make over $178.6M worldwide for the studio. Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Maggie Smith, and Hugh Bonneville star in the film. The newcomers this time around include Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips, and Stephen Campbell Moore. Michael Engler directed the big-screen adaptation.

The film is based on Carnival Films’ Emmy award-winning television series, which delighted fans for several seasons. The movie chronicles the Crawley family one year after the conclusion of the series, as they prepare for the most important moment of their lives: an impending visit from the Royal Family. The studio teased the movie saying, “Join the glitz, glamour and spectacle as the special visit unleashes scandal, romance and intrigue on the fan-favorite family and its staff members.” The film comes from the series screenwriter and producer Julian Fellowes, and producers Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge.
