Netflix’s “The Witcher” adaptation debuts on the platform this winter, and fans can get a better look at the new series thanks to an official trailer released by Netflix on Thursday morning. The series was first announced for Netflix in 2017, and the company brought the stars to San Diego Comic-Con this summer to promote the new show ahead of its debut. Henry Cavil stars in the series as Geralt, the story’s central focus and main Witcher. The series is based on the popular fantasy saga from Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.

Known collectively as the Witcher Saga, Sapkowski’s eight novels and story collections center on “witchers” — hunters who develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle deadly monsters. The New York Times bestselling books have been translated into over 20 languages, and they were later turned into an award-winning video game franchise. If you prefer to read the original works before watching the adaptation, you can find Sapkowski’s works right here on Amazon.

Andrzej Sapkowski serves as a creative consultant on the series for Netflix, and Sean Daniel and Jason Brown serve as executive producers with Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko. The video’s description says, “You can’t outrun destiny just because you’re terrified of it. Henry Cavill is Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher arrives December 20.”

The official description from Netflix adds, “Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
