Sony Pictures released a final trailer for “Jumanji: The Next Level,” which is releasing in theaters on December 13th. The highly anticipated sequel stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Ser’ Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, and Alex Wolff. The cast also includes Danny Glover and Danny DeVito, and Jake Kasdan directed the movie for the studio.
The film’s official description reads, “In Jumanji: The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover that nothing is as they expect. The players will have to brave parts unknown and unexplored, from the arid deserts to the snowy mountains, in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game.”
The original movie in the rebooted franchise was an overnight hit for Sony Pictures. Released in 2017, “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” became the studios’ highest-grossing film of all time, topping the previous Spider-Man, Men in Black, Terminator, and Bond movies. “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” brought in over $404M domestically and went on to make over $962M worldwide. That even beat “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which made $334M domestically and $880M globally. “Spider-Man: Far From Home” topped the charts in 2019, making $390.5M domestically and over $1.13B worldwide. If Jumanji wants to reclaim the title, that’s the number to beat.
Matt Tolmach, Jake Kasdan, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia served as producers on the project, with David Householter, Melvin Mar, Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, William Teitler, Ted Field, Mike Weber, and Chris Van Allsburg serving as executive producers.
“Jumanji: The Next Level” opens against the horror-thriller “Black Christmas” with Imogen Poots, Cary Elwes, Aleyse Shannon, and Brittany O’Grady. The other big releases that weekend are the Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell drama “Richard Jewell,” and “Bombshell” with Margot Robbie, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Morrison, and Alice Eve. Adam Sandler fans can also see “Uncut Gems.”
