Taylor Swift will be honored with the Artist of the Decade award at the “2019 American Music Awards” on ABC. Swift, who has won more American Music Awards than any other artist this decade, is also a five-time nominee in 2019. Swift also holds the record for most American Music Awards wins of any female artist ever, currently sitting with 23 wins overall. This year’s event will be air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on November 24th.
“Taylor’s impact on music this decade is undeniable, and her performances on the American Music Awards have been truly spectacular,” said Mark Bracco, executive vice president, Programming & Development, dick clark productions. “We’re thrilled to honor her as our Artist of the Decade and can’t wait for her to blow everyone away with an epic, career-spanning performance unlike any other!”
Swift will also take the stage, celebrating her record-breaking release of “Lover,” which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200. The album is Taylor’s sixth No. 1 album on the chart. In 2019, Swift is nominated for Artist of the Year, Favorite Music Video, Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock, Favorite Album – Pop/Rock and Favorite Artist – Adult Contemporary.
This year’s show celebrates the past 10 years with some of the best moments in music and live performances from the biggest names in the industry. The American Music Awards nominees are based on key fan interactions as reflected on Billboard.com, including streaming, album and digital song sales, radio airplay, social activity and touring.
Swift has been on a hot streak this year, and she’s returning to the big screen for the musical “Cats” in December. Her seventh studio album is the top-selling album of 2019, and it is the highest-selling album since “reputation” was released back in 2017. The ‘Lover’ album also broke the record for most simultaneous entries by a female artist in Billboard’s Hot 100 history, with all 18 tracks charting. Her second single, “You Need To Calm Down,” follows the debut single “ME!,” which broke multiple records in 2019. The music video scored over 65.2M views in 24 hours, and holds YouTube’s record for most-viewed video by any female and solo artist. “ME!” is also the fastest music video to reach 100M views on Vevo (in only 79 hours) and broke the record for the most views in a single day by any artist. Taylor is also a 10-time Grammy winner, singer, songwriter, musician and producer. Swift is the youngest person in history to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and is the first female solo artist to win the award twice. She is also a Brit and Emmy Award winner, and she is Billboard’s youngest-ever Woman of the Year and the only artist to have been awarded this honor twice.
The “2019 American Music Awards” is produced by dick clark productions. Barry Adelman and Mark Bracco are executive producers. Larry Klein is producer.
