DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures set release dates for two upcoming films, and both of them are releasing in 2021. The first release is “Spirit Riding Free,” which is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 14, 2021. The other film is “The Bad Guys,” which is releasing on September 17, 2021.

If you have a little on at home that loves horses, then you probably already know a lot about “Spirit Riding Free.” The new movie is a big screen adaptation of the popular DreamWorks Animation franchise that is currently available on Netflix. The story began in 2002 with the Oscar-nominated film “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron,” and the series has made over fifty episodes. The franchise is incredibly popular with children and has inspired a vast assortment of Spirit Riding Free toys, clothes and merch. Elaine Bogan is set to direct the movie adaptation, with Aury Wallington, the original creator of the Netflix series, writing the script.

“The Bad Guys” will be an adaptation of Aaron Blabey’s best-selling book series, which you can find right here on Amazon. Etan Cohen wrote the script for the project, with Pierre Perifel set to make his feature directing debut with the movie.

Earlier this month, DreamWorks Animation announced a new holiday special with the cast of “How to Train Your Dragon.” The special event is called “How to Train Your Dragon Homecoming,” and it will feature the return of Jay Baruchel as the voice of Hiccup, America Ferrera as Astrid, Gerard Butler as Stoick, Craig Ferguson as Gobber, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Fishlegs. According to the network, the events in the story take place just before the emotional epilogue from the last installment of the film trilogy, and 10 years after the end of “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.” The new story opens with Hiccup and Toothless sharing stories of their special relationship with their respective families as they prepare for the Snoggletog Festival.
