Disney released the first official trailer for “Disney’s Jungle Cruise,” a new action-adventurer scheduled to hit theaters on July 24th. The new movie is inspired by the popular Disneyland theme park ride and stars Dwayne Johnson as the charismatic riverboat captain, and Emily Blunt as a determined explorer on a research mission. The film also features Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti. Disney added, “The trailer was launched via a fun-filled Instagram Live featuring Dwayne Johnson, interacting with a boat full of skippers from the Jungle Cruise attraction at The Disneyland Resort.”

So far, the other studios aren’t competing with “Disney’s Jungle Cruise,” and it has the July 24th weekend all to its itself. The other big releases scheduled to hit theaters that month are Ryan Reynold’s “Free Guy;” “Minions: The Rise of Gru;” the untitled Ghostbusters project; the untitled Purge installment; the Bob’s Burger’s movie; and the Sony/Marvel project “Morbius” with Jared Leto. July is a long way off, and the scheduled will move around as we get closer to the summer months. Many people laughed at the idea of turning the Pirates of the Caribbean ride into a movie back in 2003. Since then, the franchise has made over $4.5B worldwide, across five blockbuster releases.

Dwayne Johnson is reprising his role alongside Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, and Awkwafina in Sony Pictures’ “Jumanji: The Next Level,” which is scheduled to hit theaters on December 13th. The original installment made $36M on its opening weekend before grossing over $962M for Sony Pictures. Emily Blunt’s “A Quiet Place 2” is expected to release on March 20, 2020, which was directed by her husband and original “A Quiet Place” star, John Krasinski.

Jaume Collet-Serra directed “Disney’s A Quiet Place 2,” with John Davis, John Fox, Dwayne Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Dany Garcia, and Beau Flynn serves as producers. Doug Merrifield serves as an executive producer on the project.
