Netflix confirmed the cast of the new “Shadow and Bone” adaptation this week. The new series will be based on the Shadow and Bone and Six of Crow novels, and will star Ben Barnes as General Kirigan, Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Amita Suman as Inej, and Kit Young as Jesper Fahey.

Leigh Bardugo wrote the original NYT bestselling series. Netflix announced back in January that the company had ordered episodes for the show’s first season. Eric Heisserer (Bird Box) adapted the novels and will serve as showrunner for the series. The show reunites Heisserer with 21 Laps (Stranger Things), who produced his Oscar-nominated film “Arrival.” Pouya Shahbazian (the Divergent series) also serves as an executive producer.

With over 2.5M copies sold in the English language alone, Bardugo’s Grishaverse books have been translated into 38 languages around the world and counting. You can find the collection right here on Amazon, so you can read the original work before seeing the adaptation.

Netflix describes the series adding “In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins, and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive.”

This month, Netflix will release Nikki Glaser’s “Bangin’” comedy special; the movie “Wounds” with Armie Hammer, Dakota Johnson, and Zazie Beetz; the Stephen King “In the Tall Grass” adaptation; the sci-fi thriller series “Raising Dion;” Cardi B’s “Rhythm + Flow” series, the Breaking Bad movie; “Insatiable: Season 2;” the movie “The Laundromat;” Jenny Slate’s comedy special; Eddie Murphy’s “Dolemite is my Name;” and “The Kominsky Method: Season 2.” With the major networks also starting their Fall schedules, and football returning to television three days a week, you should have plenty to stream over the next few months.
