Netflix set the cast for “Sorta Like a Rock Star,” which is coming to Netflix in 2020. The new cast members include Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Carol Burnett, Fred Armisen, Rhenzy Feliz, Justina Machado, Judy Reyes, Gerald Isaac Waters, Taylor Richardson, and Anthony Jacques. These actors will join the previously announced lead Auli’i Cravalho.
Brett Haley (Hearts Beat Loud) is directing the movie. Haley is currently in post-production on “All The Bright Places” starring Elle Fanning and Justice Smith. Based on the internationally bestselling novel by Jennifer Niven, the feature will be released by Netflix in 2020.
Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Lee Stollman Marty Bowen, and Isaac Klausner are serving as producers on the project, with Jonathan Montepare, and Matthew Quick serving as executive producers.
The official logline reads, “Sorta Like a Rock Star follows a teenage girl who, despite her difficult circumstances, is preternaturally optimistic about the world and her place in it. She often helps those around her, resulting in powerful bonds with a disparate group of outsiders in her community, until she faces a devastating loss and can no longer ignore the challenges in her own life.”
The new movie is an adaptation of Matthew Quick’s novel by the same name. You can find the original work right here on Amazon. Principal photography is set to begin this October, according to Netflix.
If you’re a Netflix subscriber, the platform released a trailer for the teen-apocalypse series “Daybreak” this week, and announced a new sci-fi series based on “Way Station,” the Hugo Award-Winning novel by Clifford D. Simak. Other projects in the works include the Millie Bobby Brown and her sister Paige Brown series “A Time Lost,” a new deal with “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins, a NASCAR comedy with Kevin James, and an animated-comedy called “Centaurworld,” where a battled warhorse is magically transported to a cute and cuddly fantasy world.
