Lionsgate is still basking in the glory of “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum,” which is doing very well in the home video market. The third installment sold more than 3M packaged and video-on-demand units during its home entertainment launch, and the movie is quickly becoming one of the most successful EST releases in the studio’s history.
The third film already passed “John Wick Part 2” in its first three days of EST release, and “John Wick: Chapter 3” is now positioned to become Lionsgate‘s highest-grossing home entertainment title since “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” in 2014.
The third film released on DVD and Blu-Ray last week, and launched on EST in late August. “John Wick: Chapter 3” made over $171M at the domestic box office while it was in theaters, and grossed over $321M worldwide. That is nearly double the box office performance of “John Wick 2.” Lionsgate also reported that “John Wick 3” is over-indexing on home entertainment platforms, and the movie is performing at levels that are comparable to action titles that have grossed over $250M at the domestic box office.
“The popularity of the John Wick franchise continues to surge with strong growth across packaged media, electronic sell-through and video-on-demand platforms,” said Lionsgate President of Worldwide Home Entertainment Ron Schwartz. “The success of John Wick: Chapter 3 is a testament to the film’s incredible cast, led by Keanu Reeves, and amazing creative team, the efforts of our sales and marketing executives, and the vibrancy of the home entertainment business across all of its platforms.”
Fans have another movie in the franchise to look forward to, as “John Wick 4” is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide on May 21, 2021.
