While studios and actors were celebrating their latest projects at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, Riz Ahmed accepted the latest IMDb STARmeter Award. Ahmed was presented with the IMDb “Breakout Star” STARmeter Award this year, which recognizes actors who are fan favorites on the IMDbPro STARmeter chart. That chart is determined by the pageviews of the more than 200M unique monthly visitors to IMDb worldwide. Previous IMDb STARmeter Award recipients at Toronto include Olivia Wilde, Miles Teller, Brie Larson, Felicity Jones, Sam Rockwell, and Olivia Cooke. Col Needham, Founder and CEO of IMDb, presented Riz Ahmed with the award during the event.

There are plenty of reasons why fans were eager to learn more about Ahmed’s past and future projects; the actor has picked up several awards over the past three years and landed several high-profile films. In 2016, Ahmed had an Emmy Award-winning performance in “The Night Of,” and he appeared in the 2018 mega-hit “Venom” for Sony Pictures. Ahmed also leads the highly anticipated movie “Sound of Metal.” He also appeared in Netflix’s “The OA” as Elias Rahim, which had a very strong fanbase.

In “Sound of Metal,” Ahmed appears alongside last year’s IMDb Breakout STARmeter Award winner, Olivia Cooke. “Sound of Metal” premiered this week at the Toronto International Film Festival. Ahmed is also working on new adaptation of “Hamlet,” where he will star as the fabled Prince of Denmark.

While he had roles on television and film prior to 2014, Ahmed’s role in the movie “Nightcrawler” jump-started his career. He followed up the movie with the role of Aaeon Kalloor in the 2016 movie “Jason Bourne,” then the mini-series “The Night Of” as Naz Khan. Ahmed’s next big project was the role of Bodhi Rook in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which led to a role in HBO’s TV series “Girls,” and then a role in the indie-hit “The Sisters Brothers.” Other roles, like Riot in “Venom,” certainly helped Ahmed’s search results on IMDb, and fans should be excited to see him return to the screen.
