Netflix set the cast for Rachel Talalay’s “A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting.” The movie will star Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl), Oona Laurence (Lost Girls), Alessio Scalzotto (Rim of the World), Ian Ho (A Simple Favour), Indya Moore (Pose) and Tom Felton (Harry Potter franchise). Joe Ballarini wrote the screenplay, which is based on his novels.
Netflix’s official logline reads, “When first-time babysitter Kelly Ferguson’s charge is kidnapped by the Boogeyman, she discovers a secret society of fierce babysitters who protect children — and an entire world of monsters she will have to fight in order to save him.” The movie is based on the first installment of Ballarini’s A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting book trilogy, published by Katherine Tegen Books, an imprint of Harper Collins Publishers. The series includes A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting #2: Beasts & Geeks and A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting #3: Mission to Monster Island.

Ivan Reitman and Amie Karp are producing the project, with Naia Cucukov, Tom Pollock, and Ilona Herzberg serving as producers. According to Netflix, principal photography began on the project back on August 29th in Vancouver, Canada.
Netflix’s live-action and animated slate aimed at kids and teens has been rapidly expanding over the last year. The upcoming schedule includes the 2019 comedy “Tall Girl,” directed by Nzingha Stewart, and the Sofia Carson’s “Feel the Beat,” directed by Elissa Down. There’s also “The Main Event” directed by Jay Karas, and “The Sleepover” directed by Trish Sie. Netflix will be dropping teasers for those series and movies over the next few months.
“A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting” is the second family-friendly adaptation from Walden Media at Netflix, following “The Baby-Sitter’s Club” series.
