The official trailer for “JOJO Rabbit” released on Tuesday morning and the video gives moviegoers another preview of Taika Waititi’s adaptation of the popular Christine Leunens novel. The film comes from FOX Searchlight and is scheduled to release in October.
“Jojo Rabbit” is a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis as JoJo) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi), Jojo must confront his blind nationalism.
If you would like to read the original work before seeing the adaptation, you can find Caging Skies right here on Amazon. You have a few more weeks to read the book before the film hits theaters, so you should be fine even if you’re a slow reader.
The movie stars Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Rebel Wilson, Taika Waititi, Thomasin McKenzie, and Roman Griffin Davis. You’ll find them all in the trailer, with Taika Waititi playing the role of Adolf Hitler in the project.
The October 18th release date means that “JoJo Rabbit” is opening against IFC’s “Greener Grass” comedy, and the drama “By the Grace of God.” That’s the same weekend that Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson’s “The Lighthouse” releases from A24, so the specialty box office will be filled with great choices. The big releases that weekend are Disney’s “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” and Sony’s “Zombieland 2: Double Tap.”
Carthew Neal, Taika Waititi, and Chelsea Winstanley produced the comedy, and Taika Waititi directed the movie from a screenplay that he also wrote.
You’ll have plenty of new releases to choose from in October, but “JoJo Rabbit” is opening in select theaters. Be sure to check your local theater to see if the movie is coming to your area.
