Disney’s live-action “The Lion King” will release on Digital on October 11th, followed by the 4K UHD and Blu-ray version on October 22nd. Jon Favreau directed the 2019 adaptation for Disney, which features the voice talents of Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Beyonce Knowles, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, John Oliver, Seth Rogen, Keegan-Michael Key, Eric André, and Billy Eichner.
The movie was an instant hit with audiences around the world when it hit theaters back in July, and the film’s $185M domestic opening even topped the 2017 hit “Beauty and the Beast,” which had a $174.5M debut. The live-action version went on to make over $533M domestically, and over $1.6B worldwide.
The next live-action movie from Disney on the schedule is “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” scheduled to release on October 18th. Joachim Rønning directed the sequel for Disney, working from a story by Linda Woolverton and a screenplay by Linda Woolverton, Micah Fitzerman-Blue, and Noah Harpster. Angelina Jolie once again stars as the titular character, along with Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville. The newcomers this time around are Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein, Harris Dickinson, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The following film in the franchise is “Mulan,” scheduled to release in 2020. Niki Caro directed that movie for the studio, which stars Yifei Liu as Mulan; Donnie Yen as Commander Tung; Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan; Yoson An as Cheng Honghui; Gong Li as Xianniang, and Jet Li as the Emperor.
With fall closing in fast, there will plenty to stream on television over the next few weeks, but we imagine “The Lion King” will be one of the top sellers of the season.
