FX loves to tease “American Horror Story,” and the network has been slowly releasing promotional videos for “American Horror Story: 1984” for the last few months. The network released a more substantial trailer for the new season on Monday, showcasing stars Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, and Cody Fern. The video teases the ninth season of the popular anthology series, which is themed after the 1980s slasher films of yesteryear. The trio are going to camp as counselors, and the video has all of the horror-slasher tropes that you would expect in an America Horror Story trailer from this genre.
The new series also features Gus Kenworthy, Leslie Grossman, John Carroll Lynch, Zach Villa, DeRon Horton, Matthew Morrison, and Angelica Ross. Sarah Paulson isn’t expected to appear in this season, but you never know with this show. Paulson’s departure is most likely due to scheduling. She is starring in Ryan Murphy’s other series, “Ratched,” which is appearing on Netflix, and she plays the character of Nurse Ratched from “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” Netflix already ordered two seasons of the show, which is prequel to the original story. Paulson is also featured in “Mrs. America,” the thriller “Run” from Aneesh Chaganty, the animated-comedy “Abominable,” and Warner Bros. Pictures upcoming adaptation of “The Goldfinch.” She’s been very busy over the past year, and we can understand if she needed a break from “American Horror Story” while filming almost half a dozen projects throughout film and television.
The network released the video on social media to remind everyone that the premiere is only a few weeks away. The official description for the video says, “You’re all gonna die,” and fans of the long-running anthology series can watch the official trailer below.
If you need to set a reminder, “American Horror Story: 1984” premieres September 18th.
