The new mystery-thriller “Briarpatch” is launching on the USA Network in 2020, and the network released a first look trailer for the first season. Starring Rosario Dawson, USA Network ordered 10-episodes of the anthology drama series from UCP and Paramount Television, and fans of the genre can watch the video below for a first look.

According to the USA Network, “Briarpatch” follows Allegra Dill (Rosario Dawson), a dogged investigator returning to her border-town Texas home after her sister is murdered. What begins as a search for a killer turns into an all-consuming fight to bring her corrupt hometown to its knees. The season celebrates the beloved genres represented by Thomas’ book — a stylish blend of crime and pulp fiction — while updating his sense of fun, danger and place for a new generation.”

The series is based on the Ross Thomas novel of the same name, and the show is written for television by Andy Greenwald, who will executive produce along with “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail through his production company Esmail Corp and Anonymous Content’s Chad Hamilton. Esmail is also developing a limited series based on Fritz Lang’s sci-fi classic “Meropolis,” and he directed and executive produced Amazon’s Golden Globe award-nominated “Homecoming” starring Julia Roberts, Stephan James, and Bobby Cannavale.

Ana Lily Amirpour directed the pilot and also served as an executive producer. In addition to her starring role, Dawson will serve as a producer on the show. The first season also stars Jay R. Ferguson (“Mad Men,” “The Romanoffs”), Brian Geraghty (“Chicago P.D.,” “Ray Donovan”) and Edi Gathegi (“StartUp”).

Dawson is also featured in the upcoming movies “Zombieland 2: Double Tap” as Nevada, and the “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” as Becky. She also voiced Wonder Woman for DC animated movie “Wonder Woman: Bloodlines,” and a character in the upcoming series “The Last Kids on Earth
