Disney announced a release date for “Black Panther 2,” confirming a May 6, 2022 premiere date for the sequel. The original “Black Panther” released in February 2018 with a $202M opening weekend. Ryan Coogler directed the Marvel installment for the studio, and Black Panther went on to make over $1.3B for Disney. “Black Panther 2” is just one of several upcoming movies and sequels coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and fans will have a new list of characters and stories to follow in the years to come.

Marvel Studios first announced “Black Panther 2” at San Diego Comic-Con, when the studio outlined the upcoming Phase 4 film slate. The company is celebrating the new films during the D23 Expo in Anaheim, but they aren’t sharing too many details at this time. Ryan Coogler is returning to direct the sequel, but it won’t be the first film in Marvel’s Phase 4 expansion. The initial Phase 4 will be “Black Widow,” scheduled to release in May 2020. The “Eternals” is releasing that same year in November.

The following year, 2021, Marvel will release “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” in February, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” in May, and “Thor: Love and Thunder” in November.

Disney‘s released a wide-array of announcements and teasers this weekend for the Marvel slate on Disney+, confirming that “Ms. Marvel,” “Moon Knight,” and “She-Hulk” will all get live-action series. The other Marvel characters currently gifted with Disney+ shows are “Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “WandaVision,” “Loki,” “Hawkeye” and the animated series “What If…?”

Marvel hasn’t confirmed the casting for “Black Panther 2” at this time, other than Chadwick Boseman of course, but many of the original characters from the first film are expected to join the sequel. The original installment featured Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett, Martin Freeman, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis, Sterling K. Brown, and Letitia Wright.
