Lionsgate dropped a first look trailer for “Jexi,” a new comedy scheduled to release in theaters on October 11th. Jon Lucas and Scott Moore wrote and directed the movie, which stars Adam Devine. That’s the same writing team behind “The Hangover,” and the people that brought you “Bad Moms,” and you can preview the movie with the video below.

Joining Adam Devine in “Jexi” are Alexandra Shipp, Ron Funches, Charlyne Yi, Wanda Sykes, Justin Hartley, Kid Cudi, Michael Peña, and Rose Byrne.

In the movie, Phil (Adam Devine) has a major dependency issue and is addicted to his phone. He has no friends, he has a job writing pop culture “Top 10” lists, and his love life is non-existent. Things start to change when he is forced to upgrade his phone, and the latest model comes with an unexpected feature…Jexi (Rose Byrne) – an A.I. life coach, virtual assistant and cheerleader. With her help, Phil begins to get a real life. As he becomes less dependent on his phone, Jexi’s artificial intelligence morphs into a tech nightmare determined to keep Phil all to herself, even if it means ruining his chances of finding success.

“Jexi” opens in theaters against Will Smith’s “Gemini Man” and the animated-comedy “The Addams Family.” The big competition is Todd Phillips’ “Joker” with Joaquin Phoenix, which opens in theaters the previous week. The following week in theaters “Jexi” battles “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” from Disney, and “Zombieland 2: Double Tap” from Sony Pictures. “Jexi” is going to need a strong opening weekend to stay in the game throughout October.

Fans of Adam Devine can see him HBO’s “The Righteous Gemstones,” starring alongside Cassidy Freeman, Danny McBride, John Goodman, Greg Williams, Edi Patterson, and Jody Hill. The show recently aired it’s premiere episode, and is currently in its first season.
