Robert Rodriguez is writing and directing “We Can Be Heroes” for Netflix, and the movie stars Christian Slater, YaYa Gosselin, Akira Akbar, Andrew Diaz, Andy Walken, Boyd Holbrook, Hala Finley, Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Lotus Blossom, and Lyon Daniels. The movie also features Nathan Blair, Sung Kang, Vivien Lyra Blair, Adriana Barraza, and Christopher McDonald, with Pedro Pascal, and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas. Robert Rodriguez is also serving as producer on the project.

Netflix‘s official logline reads, “When alien invaders kidnap Earth’s superheroes, their children must team up and learn to work together if they want to save their parents and the world.”

According to the video streaming service, the film is currently shooting in Texas. The movie won’t be Rodriguez’ first action-adventure drama, he previously directed, wrote, and produced “Spy Kids” which went on to become a major movie franchise. Rodriguez also directed “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl,” a superhero-kid film intended for the same audience as his Spy Kids franchise.

Netflix stopped short of announcing a premiere date for the “We Can Be Heroes,” but a teaser trailer or two will be released before the big premiere.

Rodriguez is also working on a sci-fi action comedy called “Machete Kills in Space,” with Danny Trejo. Rodriguez is writing and directing that movie as well, and the film is another installment in the “Machete” franchise. Danny Trejo played the titular role in “Machete Kills” in 2013 and “Machete” in 2010. Trejo also played the role of Machete in “Planet Terror” in 2007, part of the “Grindhouse” movie collection that same year. His character was also nicknamed Machete in “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over,” “Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams,” and the original “Spy Kids” installment. The nickname was changed to Uncle Machete in “Spy Kids 4-d: All the Time in the World.”
