Back in August, Netflix announced a new anime slate that included “B: The Beginning,” “Devilman Crybaby,” “Sword Gai: the Animation,” “A.I.C.O. Incarnation,” the “Rilakkuma Series,” “Knights of the Zodiac: SAINT SEIYA,” “Baki,” “Kakegurui,” “Fate/Apocrypha” and “Cannon Busters.” While you still have to wait for a few of those titles, “Cannon Busters” is primed for action.

LeSean Thomas (Children of Ether) created the series and serves as executive producer and director. The story follows the adventures and exploits of a high-end, royal-class friendship droid named S.A.M, a discarded maintenance robot, and a deadly fugitive. Throughout the story, the unlikely trio embarks on a journey across a dangerous world in search of S.A.M’s best friend, the heir to a powerful kingdom under siege.

Netflix ordered twelve episodes for the show’s first season, which are produced by Manga Entertainment, Nada Holdings, and Satelight.

Natasha Allegri (Creator of Bee & Puppycat), Anne Toole (Writer’s Guild nominee for “The Witcher” video game), Nilah Magruder (M.F.K. web series) and LeSean Thomas, serve as writers for the show, and Matt Wayne (Justice League Unlimited, Niko & The Sword of Light) joined as the story editor.

Netflix rereleased the trailer on social media to promote the first season, telling fans, “Immortal renegade Philly the Kid and his transforming pink Cadillac join a relentlessly upbeat friendship droid on her quest to find a missing prince.” You can watch the official trailer below, thanks to an upload from Netflix on Thursday afternoon.

Over the last two years, Netflix has dramatically expanded its anime slate, offering more than two dozen new shows and specials to the library. If you’re a fan of the genre, you should definitely check out the continually updating category, which will be adding new series later this year. Netflix has also announced several upcoming anime titles based on global IP, including Magic: The Gathering, Pacific Rim, Altered Carbon, Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, and Transformers – War for Cybertron, all of which are currently in development.
