Universal Pictures’ “Yesterday” will release on digital on September 10th, followed by the 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and On-Demand version on September 24th. In the movie, Jack’s life is changed forever when he discovers he is the only person on earth who remembers the music of The Beatles and must decide if he truly wants the spotlight.
The film did very well in theaters, opening in third place in August behind “Toy Story 4” and “Annabelle Comes Home” with a $17M debut. The movie went on to make over $70M domestically and over $124.9M worldwide.
The studio described the story saying, “Jack Malik was just another struggling songwriter…but that was yesterday. After a mysterious blackout, Jack (Himesh Patel; BBC’s “EastEnders”) discovers he is the only person on earth who remembers The Beatles. As he rockets to fame by passing off the Fab Four’s songs as his own, Jack risks losing Ellie (Lily James; Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Cinderella) – the one person who has loved him and believed in him from the start.”
Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later) directed the movie, which also features Kate McKinnon and Ed Sheeran.
Lily James is playing the role of Mrs. de Winter in Ben Wheatley’s Netflix adaptation of “Rebecca.” That project also stars Armie Hammer as Maxim de Winter, Ann Dowd as Mrs. Van Hopper, and Kristin Scott Thomas as Mrs. Danvers. Jane Goldman wrote the screenplay, and the project is based on the novel by Daphne Du Maurier. Alfred Hitchcock directed an adaptation in 1940, that movie featured Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, and George Sanders.
