Disney’s “Descendants” returned for the third installment this week, becoming cable TV’s highest-rated telecast in over two years among Kids 6-11, Tweens 9-14, Girls 6-11 and Girls 9-14, according to the most recent L+3 data. In total, “Descendants 3” reached 8.43M viewers, making it the #1 telecast of the day across all television. The network also confirmed that the series grew 84% from DVR viewing over just three days. Online, the “Descendants 3” music videos already have more than 111M since their debut five days ago.

When broken down, “Descendant 3” reached 2.7M Kids 6-11, 2.5M Tweens 9-14, 1.9M million Girls 6-11, and 1.8M Girls 9-14. The most significant three-day gains were in Kids 6-11, which saw a 95% jump, and Girls 6-11, which saw a 92% jump. The network also pointed out that over 2.5M adults watched the premiere, including 1.7M Women 18-49.

The premiere also blitzed the DisneyNOW app, as “Descendants 3” became the highest viewed Disney Channel original movie in a single day. The show was also the top TV show across all genres on the iTunes TV store, and the soundtrack reached number one on the iTunes album chart. Not to be outdone, the social media team brought their A-game to “Descendants 3,” and the movie is this year’s #1 most social TV movie to-date.

Filmed in Vancouver, BC, “Descendants 3” was directed by Kenny Ortega (“High School Musical” trilogy), written by Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott (“Descendants” and its sequel), and choreographed by Jamal Sims (Disney’s “Aladdin”) and Ortega. The executive producers are Ortega, Wendy Japhet, Susan Cartsonis, McGibbon and Parriott.
