Two Lifetime Original Movies are in the works, with back-to-back Friday night premieres starting on August 2nd. The first thriller is called “A Lover Scorned” with Emilie de Ravin (Lost), followed by “Deadly Influencer” with Anne Dudek and Abby Ross on August 9th. Lifetime also announced a new series of original movies based on Jane Green novels. Alyssa Milano is starring in the first movie, which is currently in production.
“A Lover Scorned” features Emilie de Ravin, Leo Howard, Martha Hamilton, and Jeffrey Vincent Parise. Lifetime described the movie saying, “Trapped in a loveless marriage, Brooke begins an affair with Jake, a young, hotshot insurance-agent. Their tryst turns deadly when the pair hatch a plot to murder Brooke’s husband Stephen and cash-out on his life insurance policy.” The network added, “But when Jake begins to reveal his sociopathic tendencies, Brooke is forced to play the game of ultimate deception or become a victim herself.”
The second thriller is called “Deadly Influencer,” and it premieres on August 9th. Morgan Taylor Campbell, Abby Ross, and Anne Dudek star in the movie, directed by Curtis Crawford. Lifetime’s description reads, “Skylar is obsessed with managing the social media “influencer” careers of her fellow high school classmates and will stop at nothing to achieve her goals, including murder. After eliminating the most popular girl in school, Skylar turns her sights on Jessica, the new girl in class who is also an up-and-coming fashion blogger.” The network continued, “But Jessica’s mother Lynn suspects that Skylar is dangerous and must do all that she can to protect her daughter.”
The network also greenlit three feature movies based on novels by international best-selling author Jane Green. From executive producers Kim Raver (Grey’s Anatomy), Manu Boyer (To Whom It May Concern) and Jane Green, the first film in the series, “Tempting Fate,” will star Alyssa Milano. The movie also serves as Raver’s directorial debut with Boyer from a script written by Jennifer Maisel. In addition to Green, Raver and Boyer, Dave Fleming and Shane Salerno will executive produce the trio of movies that will all debut on Lifetime next year. Jocelyn Freid (Seeds of Yesterday) and Kara Feifer (Time of Your Life) are also executive producers on Tempting Fate.
Jane Green is the author of seventeen New York Times bestsellers, published in over thirty languages around the world and has more than ten million books in print. The two additional Jane Green novels that will be adapted to film are To Have and To Hold and Family Pictures.
You still have time to read the original novels before watching the adaptations. You can find a collection of Green’s work right here on Amazon.
“Jane Green’s novels are addictive, fun, juicy and wise – just like a great Lifetime Movie – so to bring the two genres together is incredibly thrilling,” said Lopez. “With Kim set to direct and Alyssa as the star to kick off the first of the series by Jane, it is the perfect trifecta.”
“Having been a massive fan of Jane’s books, it’s a dream come true for me and my producing partners to be able to bring these powerful female-centric stories to fruition at Lifetime!” said Raver. “I’m incredibly grateful to Tanya for championing this trilogy for us and giving me the opportunity to have my directorial debut!”
“Tempting Fate” follows the story of mother-of two Gabby (Milano) whose picture-perfect marriage to Elliott is jeopardized when she meets Matt, a handsome younger man who seemingly ignites a fire and desire within her. What begins as a business opportunity soon develops into an emotional affair leading Gabby to eventually succumb to Matt’s unrelenting attraction and attention, never foreseeing the life-changing consequences that lie ahead.
“To Have and to Hold” centers on Alice who still can’t believe her high school crush, the dashing, wealthy and successful Joe Chambers, would choose to marry her and willingly allows him to mold her into his ideal socialite wife. Despite Alice’s best efforts to be the woman of Joe’s dreams, he can’t help but be unfaithful to her. When Joe’s indiscretions impact his career, Alice’s life is further turned upside down. Alice unexpectedly finds herself falling for her best friend’s boyfriend and begins to wonder if her fairy tale ending could exist after all.
In “Family Pictures,” Sylvie and Maggie are two strangers living on opposite coasts, leading very similar lives with husbands that travel for work too much and daughters about to leave the nest. But when their daughters befriend each other on college tour, they soon discover a shocking secret that threatens to tear both families apart.
