Sony Pictures dropped an official trailer for “Zombieland 2,” or “Zombieland: Double Tap.” Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the movie stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Emma Stone. The action-comedy also features Abigail Breslin, Rosario Dawson, Zoey Deutch, and Luke Wilson, and is scheduled to hit theaters on October 18th.
Sony Pictures released the trailer on social-media telling fans, “A decade after Zombieland became a hit film and a cult classic, the lead cast (Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone) have reunited with director Ruben Fleischer (Venom) and the original writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool) for Zombieland 2: Double Tap. In the sequel, written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, these four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.”
Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham wrote the script, and Gavin Polone produced the project for the studio. Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese, Rebecca Rivo, Ruben Fleischer, and David Bernad serve as executive producers.
Ruben Fleischer directed the first installment, which released in 2009. The original “Zombieland” opened at the top of the box office with a $24.7M debut, and the movie was an instant hit with viewers. The first movie went on to make over $102.3M worldwide. The official sequel releases on October 18th, opening against Disney’s “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” with Angelina Jolie, Ed Skrein, Michelle Pfeiffer, Elle Fanning, Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Imelda Staunton, Lesley Manville, and Sam Riley. It will be interesting to see which of the film’s take the top spot on the important fall weekend.
