FOX released another trailer for “Ad Astra,” a sci-fi thriller starring Brad Pitt that’s scheduled to release in theaters this September. Disney moved the release date of the film several times after the acquisition of 20th Century FOX, but the movie is finally hitting theaters on September 20th. The movie also features Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler, and Donald Sutherland.
James Gray directed the film, working from a script that he wrote with Ethan Gross. In the movie, Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. The studio teased the story on social media adding, “His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.”
Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, James Gray, Anthony Katagas, Rodrigo Teixeira, and Arnon Milchan served as producers on the project. Fans of the dramtic sci-fi thrillers can watch the second full-length trailer below.
“Ad Astra” opens against “Rambo: Last Blood,” which stars Sylvester Stallone and Paz Vega. That’s the same weekend that the “Downton Abbey” movie releases at the specialty box office.
“Ad Astra” opens one week after Warner Bros. Pictures’ “The Goldfinch” adaptation, which could split the box office during its follow-up weekend. The other big releases in September are “IT: Chapter 2;” Constance Wu’s “The Hustlers;” and the action-thriller “The Hunt” from Jason Blum.
Fans of Brad Pitt can also see him in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which hits theaters on July 26th. That film also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Timothy Olyphant, Dakota Fanning, the late Luke Perry, Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Lorenza Izzo, Damian Lewis, and Emile Hirsch.
