The “Thor: Ragnarok” crew is coming back for another installment. Taika Waititi is returning to the franchise to direct and write “Thor 4,” which will once again star Chris Hemsworth.
Waititi directed “Thor: Ragnarok” in 2017, which featured Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film opened in November with great reviews and made over $122.6M on its opening weekend. The Marvel installment went on to make over $853.9M worldwide and currently sits with a 7.9 rating on IMDb. Deadline was one of the first outlets to confirm Taika Waititi’s involvement in the upcoming movie, but we don’t have a title or cast list at this time.
Kenneth Branagh directed the first “Thor” movie in 2011, and it starred Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, and Natalie Portman, and made over $449M at the worldwide box-office. Alan Taylor directed “Thor: The Dark World” with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston. The movie made over $206M at the domestic box-office before ending its theatrical run with over $644M.
The news comes just a few days before Marvel’s Comic-Con panel with studio president and producer Kevin Feige. The panel will feature “surprise panelists,” and the guests will discuss the past and future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Avengers: Endgame” hinted at the idea of Thor joining the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, but with Thor 4 on the way, we will have to wait and see how the two spinoffs are connected. Marvel is working on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” “Doctor Strange 2,” “Black Panther 2,” and a standalone “Black Widow” film. Other rumored projects include a “The Eternals” movie, and a new movie with the character “Shang-Chi.”
Marvel hasn’t made any official announcement in the Phase 4 space at this time, but Comic-Con is always a possible location for big announcements and reveals. Marvel is hosting the big Hall h panel at 5:15 pm on July 20th.
