The story picks up during a rescue mission in space and Jean Grey (Turner) is transformed into the infinitely powerful and dangerous Dark Phoenix. As Jean spirals out of control, the X-Men must unite to face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.

Simon Kinberg wrote and directed “Dark Phoenix” for the studio. The movie opened in June against “The Secret Life of Pets 2,” at a time when “Aladdin,” “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” and “Rocketman” were doing well in theaters. “Dark Phoenix” made $32.8 on its opening weekend, and went on to make over $251.4M worldwide. Including the Deadpool and Wolverine movies, the X-Men franchise spans across twelve films, and “Dark Phoenix” sits at the bottom of the charts.

“Dark Phoenix’s” mediocre opening landed the film in last place on the domestic opening weekend chart in the franchise, under “The Wolverine’s” $53M opening in 2013. “Dark Phoenix” also sits as the franchise’s lowest-performing X-Men movie of all time, under the 2000 release of “X-Men,” which made $296M worldwide.

The movie is the final chapter in the FOX series. Now that Disney owns the film rights to X-Men, fans are eagerly awaiting their introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Until then, you can watch Jean Gray and the crew in “Dark Phoenix.” Collectors will want to add the title to their shelf, but everyone else can stream the final moments on the small screen.
