One of the most anticipated series slated to debut on Disney+ is “The Mandalorian,” the first live-action Star Wars series to hit the small screen. If you’re attending D23 this year, you can be one of the first to see scenes from the upcoming series, and hear about the first season from director John Favreau.
LucasFilm confirmed that “The Mandalorian” is making its D23 debut this year. The show is part of the Disney+ panel taking place on August 23rd in Hall D23. During the panel, fans will get a sneak peek at Favreau’s new bounty hunter series, which is going live alongside Disney+ later this fall. In the show, the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) is a bounty hunter who travels the Outer Rim making a living as a mercenary-for-hire. Dave Filoni (supervising director on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and writer/director on The Mandalorian), along with special guests, will join Favreau for the on-stage presentation. Also featured in the series are Gina Carano (Deadpool), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), and Nick Nolte (Affliction).
The studio is also hosting a pavilion on the show floor from August 23rd through August 25th, and it will feature an impressive showcase highlighting the evolution of the Star Wars stormtrooper. The stormtrooper exhibit is coming to San Diego Comic-Con as well, so be on the lookout if you’re attending SDCC with us. The exhibit will include several of the screen-used costumes seen throughout the iconic movie series. These include everything from the classic stormtrooper scene in the original trilogy, to the new design featured in the upcoming movie “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
Also featured in the Lucasfilm pavilion will be a special section for young Padawans that will include “Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures” video shorts along with multiple interactive activities for kids.
With “Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker” and the new “Clone Wars” animated series also coming out this year, this should be one of the best D23 events for Star Wars fans since the announcement of “The Force Awakens.” Disney released the official trailer for “Rise of the Skywalker” last Spring, but we have to wait a little longer for an official trailer for the new “Clone Wars” series. We might get that trailer next week at Comic-Con, or during the D23 Expo. “Rise of the Skywalker” stars Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Billie Lourd, and Kelly Marie Tran. The new film will add Keri Russell and Billy Dee Williams to the story as well.
