The hype for “American Horror Story: 1984” is just getting started, but word on the street is that this season will be one character short during most of the adventures. Multiple outlets, including Variety, have reported that Sarah Paulson is taking a step back this year, and her appearances in the new season will be minimal. Evan Peters said he wouldn’t appear in Season 9, so it will be interesting to see which characters the show focuses on in the new episodes. Sarah Paulson has appeared in all eight seasons of American Horror Story, and it seems that she won’t be completely missing in the new season.

We should point out that Paulson is taking time off to star in Ryan Murphy’s other series, “Ratched,” which is appearing on Netflix. In that series, Paulson plays the character of Nurse Ratched from “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” but this is a prequel to that story. The show explores the events that turned Ratched into the infamous nurse from the original novel. Netflix already ordered two seasons of the show, but we don’t have a premiere date at this time.

This won’t be the first time that Paulson took a backseat to the AHS story, her character in season one didn’t take up too much screen time, but she did appear in three of the season’s episodes. It seems unlikely that Paulson will sit out all of “American Horror Story: 1984,” but we won’t know until September.

Paulson’s schedule has been filled over the past year. The actor is currently filming “Mrs. America” and “Ratched” for television, and in film she wrapped “Run” from Aneesh Chaganty, the animated-comedy “Abominable,” “The Goldfinch,” and starred in 2019’s “Glass” from M. Night Shyamalan.

The theme for AHS this year seems to be based on the slasher-films from the 1980s, but that’s going by the title design. We will know more about the new season once FX starts releasing teaser trailers for the new episodes, which are usually filled with hints and clues about the upcoming season. There is some good news, fans won’t have to wait too long before the new season starts, since the premiere date is just a few months away.

If you want to set a reminder, “American Horror Story: 1984” debuts on September 18th.
