Dora the Explorer is back with a new trailer for her live-action debut. The movie, “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” hits theaters on August 9th and features Isabela Moner, Eugenio Derbez, Michael Peña, Eva Longoria, Adriana Barraza, Temuera Morrison, Jeff Wahlberg, Nicholas Coombe, Madeleine Madden, and Danny Trejo. Nicholas Stoller and Matthew Robinson wrote the screenplay for the project, and the studio teased the movie with a new trailer on Tuesday morning.

James Bobin directed the adaptation for Paramount Pictures, working from a story written by Tom Wheeler and Nicholas Stoller.

In the movie, Dora is taking a break from her adventures to enter High School. Things don’t go according to plan, and Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeff Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.

Kristin Burr produced the movie, with Julia Pistor, Eugenio Derbez, and John G. Scotti serving as executive producers.

“Dora and the Lost City of Gold” opens in theaters against “The Art of Racing in the Rain” with Milo Ventimiglia, Amanda Seyfried, and Kevin Costner, and DC’s “The Kitchen” with Melissa McCarthy, Elisabeth Moss, and Tiffany Haddish. The big competition will be “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” which shares the pre-teen demo.

The other big releases in August include “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” at the beginning of the month, followed by “47 Meters Down: Uncaged,” “Good Boys,” “The Informer,” “Where’d You Go, Bernadette,” “Angel has Fallen,” “Overcomer,” “Ready or Not,” and “Blinded By the Light.”

“The Angry Birds Movie 2” opens two weeks after “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” hits theaters, which could split the box office with the live-action adaptation, followed by kid-friendly spy movie “My Spy” with Dave Bautista. Dora goes up against “PLAYMOBIL: The Movie” at the end of the month.
