Renée Zellweger stars in the new “Judy” trailer as the legendary Judy Garland. Rubert Goold directed the movie, working from a screenplay by Tom Edge. Set to release on September 27th, the film also features Jessie Buckley, Finn Wittrock, Rufus Sewell, and Michael Gambon.

The official description for the movie reads, “Winter 1968 and showbiz legend Judy Garland arrives in Swinging London to perform a five-week sold-out run at The Talk of the Town. It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in The Wizard of Oz, but if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown. As she prepares for the show, battles with management, charms musicians and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through.” The studio added, “Even her dreams of love seem undimmed as she embarks on a whirlwind romance with Mickey Deans, her soon-to-be fifth husband.”

“Judy” opens in theaters against the crime-thriller “21 Bridges” with Chadwick Boseman, Sienna Miller, Stephan James, Keith David, Taylor Kitsch, and J.K. Simmons. Universal Pictures is releasing an action thriller called “The Hunt” that the same weekend, alongside the studio’s animated-comedy “Abominable.”

September is filled with big releases this year, with “IT: Chapter 2” starting things off on September 6h. The following week is the big release of “The Goldfinch” with Ansel Elgort, Sarah Paulson, Nicole Kidman, Finn Wolfhard, Jeffrey Wright, and Luke Wilson. Constance Wu’s drama “Hustlers” is opening that weekend as well, and features Jennifer Lopez, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, and Usher. The other big releases in September are the sci-fi thriller “Ad-Astra” with Brad Pitt; “Rambo: Last Blood;” and the big “Downton Abbey” movie.

The 2017 “IT” release still holds the record for highest-opening in September, and it will be interesting to see if the follow-up can surpass the original adaptation.
