One day after releasing the live-action “Mulan” teaser trailer, Disney released an official trailer for “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.” The big sequel hits theaters on October 18th, and Angelina Jolie is reprising her role as Maleficent in the project.

Starring alongside Angelina Jolie in the film are Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville. These actors are reprising their roles from the first “Maleficent,” and they will be joined by newcomers Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein, Harris Dickinson, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” picks up several years after the first film. Disney released the trailer on social media adding, “The film continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.”

Joachim Rønning directed the sequel for Disney, working from a story by Linda Woolverton and a screenplay by Linda Woolverton and Micah Fitzerman-Blue & Noah Harpster. The film is produced by Joe Roth, Angelina Jolie and Duncan Henderson with Matt Smith, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Michael Vieira serving as executive producers. Robert Stromberg directed the original film but did not return for the follow up.

Fans of the genre can watch the full-length trailer below.

The first film in the franchise released in 2014 and made $69M on opening weekend before grossing over $758M worldwide. “Maleficent 2” will battle “Zombieland 2: Double Tap” with Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, Zoey Deutch, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Rosario Dawson on opening weekend.

Disney’s live-action remakes show no signs of slowing down at the box office. “Aladdin,” the most recent live-action release in the franchise, is still in theaters and has made over $921.6M in seven weeks.
