Samsung introduced a brand-new 27″ G-Sync monitor this week. Named the CRG5 (C27RG5) gaming monitor, the display offers a 240Hz refresh rate on a curved VA 1080p panel. While some players prefer 4K or 1440p, the lower 1080p resolution is a better fit for high refresh rates for players that don’t want to pay top dollar for the latest GPUs. It unusual for Samsung to offer G-SYNC support, but it’s nice to see a curved model offering such a high refresh rate.
“Samsung’s delivering next-level gaming experiences with innovative curved displays using the latest graphics technology to immerse gamers like never before,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Combining a 240Hz refresh rate with NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility in Samsung’s new CRG5 curved gaming monitor gives gamers advanced performance for the most graphic-intense games.”
The monitor offers a 3000:1 contrast ratio and a minimal bezel design that practically goes edge-to-edge. Players can also select pre-set display options for any genre of game with an on-screen digital menu, and more options allow advanced customizations. Players can create up to three separate display profiles to easily switch between based on their use. The pre-set modes include Custom, FPS, RTS, RPG, AOS, Cinema, and DCR.
Samsung stated that the CRG5 will be available in July for $399. The 27″ monitor seems reasonably priced, considering it offers a 240Hz refresh rate and G-SYNC support. While you’ll need a NVIDIA GPU to take full advantage of the G-SYNC feature, the monitor offers a low 4ms response time for anyone that prefers AMD.
The announcement came as players around the world focus on E3 2019. The big event usually offers some pretty good sales on games and tech, as companies compete for everyone’s attention. You can find Samsung’s collection of monitors on the company’s official storefront page right here on Amazon.
