Amazon Studios dropped a trailer for “Brittany Runs a Marathon,” set to release in theaters later this summer. Starring Jillian Bell, Michaela Watkins, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Lil Rel Howery, and Micah Stock, the movie follows Brittany as she attempts her first marathon in New York City.

The story follows Brittany Forgler, everybody’s best friend and her own worst enemy. At 27, her hard-partying ways, chronic underemployment, and toxic relationships are finally starting to catch up with her. After Brittany stops by a new doctor’s office to score some Adderall, she gets slapped with a prescription she never wanted: Get healthy. Too broke for a gym and too proud to ask for help, Brit is at a loss, until her seemingly together neighbor Catherine pushes her to lace up her Converse sneakers and run one sweaty block. The next day, she runs two. And soon, after finishing her first mile, she sets an almost unthinkable goal: running in the New York City Marathon.

Award-winning playwright Paul Downs Colaizzo makes his directorial debut with “Brittany Runs a Marathon,” scheduled to hit theaters on August 23, 2019. Comedy fans can watch the official trailer below.

The movie might remind you of “Run Fat Boy Run,” a 2008 hit from David Schwimmer and writer Michael Ian Black. The movie starred Simon Pegg, Thandie Newton, Dylan Moran, and Hank Azaria, and also featured a would-be drifter trying to turn his life around with a marathon goal. While the marathon part is the same, that’s basically the end of the comparisons.

“Brittany Runs a Marathon” is opening against Gerard Butler’s “Angel has Fallen,” Dave Bautista and Kristen Schaal’s “My Spy,” the drama “Overcomer,” and the horror-thriller “Ready or Not” with Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell. The other big comedies set to debut that month include Jacob Tremblay’s “Good Boys,” and “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” with Cate Blanchett, Kristen Wiig, Judy Greer, Billy Crudup, and Laurence Fishburne.

Amazon picked up the movie at Sundance, but if it doesn’t come to a theater near you, look for it on Prime Video.
