Brad Pitt’s sci-fi thriller “Ad Astra” finally has a trailer. The movie hits theaters this September and features Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler, and Donald Sutherland. The official premiere date for “Ad Astra” is September 20th, putting the film against other heavy hitter set to debut that month.
James Gray directed the film, working from a script he wrote with Ethan Gross. In the movie, Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. The studio teased the story on social media adding, “His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.”
Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, James Gray, Anthony Katagas, Rodrigo Teixeira, and Arnon Milchan served as producers on the project.
Fans of the genre can watch the first official trailer below, thanks to an early morning upload from Disney-FOX.
The September 20th release date puts “Ad Astra” against “Rambo: Last Blood,” and that’s the same weekend that the “Dowtown Abbey” movie releases at the specialty box office. The big competition for “Ad Astra” is the weekend before, when Warner Bros. Pictures’ “The Goldfinch” adaptation releases nationwide. The other big releases in September are “IT: Chapter 2;” Constance Wu’s “The Hustlers;” the action-thriller “The Hunt” from Jason Blum; and a scheduled horror-thriller from Blumhouse Productions.
Fans of Brad Pitt can also see him in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which hits theaters on July 26th. That film also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Timothy Olyphant, Dakota Fanning, the late Luke Perry, Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Lorenza Izzo, Damian Lewis, and Emile Hirsch.
