In the horror genre, “Doctor Sleep” is one of the most highly-anticipated adaptations scheduled to hit theaters later this year. The film is based on the novel by Stephen King and follows Dan Torrence, the survivor of the Overlook Hotel incident in “The Shining,” years after his father tried to murder him. Mike Flanagan directed the movie for Warner Bros. Pictures, and the film stars Rebecca Ferguson, Jacob Tremblay, and Ewan McGregor. “Doctor Sleep” is scheduled to hit theaters on November 8th, and horror fans can watch the first-look trailer below.

“The Shining” is a horror-thriller classic, but it took time for the film to reach that status. The original movie adaptation, directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, and Danny Lloyd, opened in ten locations back in 1980 and eventually went on to make over $44.7M for the studio.

The novel “Doctor Sleep” released in 2013, and this will be the first movie adaptation of that story.

If you like to read the author’s original work before seeing the adaptation, you can find “Doctor Sleep” right here on Amazon. In the story, Danny is older and works in a hospice center. Danny has learned to use his special powers to help patients die peacefully, but others that share his power are being used for sinister ends.

The November release date has “Doctor Sleep” opening against Roland Emmerich’s “Midway” starring Woody Harrelson, Aaron Eckhart, Luke Evans, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid, and Nick Jonas. Paramount Pictures is also releasing the new “Sonic the Hedgehog” adaptation that same weekend.

“Doctor Sleep” will have more competition the following week. Sony Pictures is releasing “Charlies Angels,” with Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, Ella Balinska, and Elizabeth Banks, against “The Good Liar” with Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren. The rom-com “Last Christmas” with Emilia Clarke, Henry Golding, and Emma Thompson is also opening that weekend.

Dozens of Stephen King’s works have been adapted for the silver screen over the last few decades, with “It,” “The Green Mile,” “1408,” and “Misery” pulling in the highest box office results. Fans have “IT Chapter Two” releasing this summer, and “In the Tall Grass” with Patrick Wilson, Harrison Gilbertson, and Rachel Wilson premiering sometime later this year.
