Netflix had a surprise announcement during the FYSEE Event for “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman.” During the event, Zach Galifianakis confirmed his new film “Between Two Ferns: The Movie” will be released globally on Netflix on September 20th, 2019.
Scott Aukerman is directing the special presentation, working off a script by Scott Aukerman and Zach Galifianakis. Aukerman and Galifianakis are also serving as producers on the project, along with Funny Or Die’s Caitlin Daley and Mike Farah.
Netflix described the movie adding, “Zach Galifianakis dreamed of becoming a star. But when Will Ferrell discovered his public access TV show “Between Two Ferns” and uploaded it to Funny Or Die, Zach became a viral laughing stock.” The platform continued, “Now Zach and his crew are taking a road trip to complete a series of high-profile celebrity interviews and restore his reputation.”
Netflix did confirm the premiere date for the special, but fans will have to wait a little longer to see the first trailer. There are still plenty of videos from the “Between Two Ferns” sketches over the years, including former President Obama, Steve Carell, Bradley Cooper, Hillary Clinton, Brad Pitt, and dozens more. If you need to dive into a YouTube wormhole this holiday weekend, they are definitely worth a view. Over the next few weeks we should have a better idea on who is featured in the new movie, and get a first look at the special from Netflix and Funny or Die.
