Universal Pictures is releasing “Little” on Digital HD on June 25th, followed by the Blu-ray and DVD release on July 9th. Tina Gordon Chism wrote and directed the comedy, which stars Regina Hall, Issa Rae, and Marsai Martin.
“Little” offers a new twist on the traditional body swap comedy. The studio describes the film as “an irreverent new comedy about the price of success, the power of sisterhood and having a second chance to grow up — and glow up — right.”
In the story, Regina Hall (Girls Trip, Black Monday) and Marsai Martin (Black-ish) both star as Jordan Sanders. Hall plays the role as the take-no-prisoners tech mogul adult version of Jordan, and Martin as the 13-year-old version that wakes up in her adult self’s penthouse just before a do-or-die presentation. Issa Rae (Insecure, The Hate You Give) plays Jordan’s long-suffering assistant April.
The movie did well in theaters, opening in second-place behind “Shazam’s” follow-up weekend with a $15M domestic debut. The comedy hit theaters during a crowded weekend, but beat “Hellboy,” “After,” and the animated comedy “Missing Link.” The movie went on to make over $40M domestically and over $47.7M worldwide for the studio.
“Little” launched to mixed reviews, which isn’t surprising for a comedy with an all-female cast, and even less surprising for a comedy starring persons of color. The film still scored a 71% rating on RottenTomatoes with audiences, despite the critic reviews. With the summer months offering the regular game shows and reality stars, it will be nice to have a comedy to stream while we are hiding from the heat.
