The bio-drama “The Current War” now has a release date. Distributed by 101 Studios, the movie’s limited release is scheduled for October 4th, with a wide-release planned on October 11th. The drama features Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon, Katherine Waterston, Tom Holland, Matthew Macfadyen, and Tuppence Middleton.

The story follows the cutthroat competition between Thomas Edison and Nikolai Tesla. In the film, Benedict Cumberbatch is Thomas Edison, the celebrity inventor on the verge of bringing electricity to Manhattan. On the eve of triumph, his plans are upended by charismatic businessman George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon), who believes he and his partner, the upstart genius Nikolai Tesla (Nicholas Hoult), have a superior idea for how to rapidly electrify America.

The studio describes the movie adding, “As Edison and Westinghouse grapple for who will power the nation, they spark one of the first and greatest corporate feuds in American history.”

Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) directed the film, working from a script by Michael Mitnick, with Martin Scorsese serving as executive producer. Timur Bekmambetov and Basil Iwanyk served as producers on the project.

The release puts “The Current War” right in the heart of awards season, fans of the actors can set a reminder to catch the movie on October 4th, or everywhere on October 11th.

October is always a busy month at the box office, and 2019 is no exception. “The Current War’s” limited release will battle Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Joker” with Joaquin Phoenix, and Disney-FOX’s “The Woman in the Window” thriller with Amy Adams. The nationwide release will be a little easier, with the animated comedy “The Addams Family” and Will Smith’s “Gemini Man” scheduled to debut.
