Ahead of the film’s premiere next week, Annapurna Pictures released the first six minutes of Olivia Wilde’s upcoming “Booksmart” comedy. The movie stars Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein, Jessica Williams, and features Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte, and Jason Sudeikis.

The story centers on two best friends right before they graduate from high-school. Looking back on their last four years, the BFFs realize that they have always done the right thing, and chose school over fun. The story picks up as the duo attempts to fit four years of high-school rebelliousness into one night.

Olivia Wilde directed the film, working from a script by Emily Halpern & Sarah Haskins, Susanna Fogel, and Katie Silbern.

The studio described the film adding, “Told from a wildly original, fresh and modern perspective, Booksmart is an unfiltered comedy about high school best friends and the bonds we create that last a lifetime. Capturing the spirit of our times, the film is a coming of age story for a new generation.”

With Disney removing Brad Pitt’s “Ad Astra” from the schedule, “Booksmart” is only competing against Disney’s live-action “Aladdin” and Sony Pictures’ “Brightburn.” It won’t be an easy weekend for the comedy, but it does have one less film to worry about.

Megan Ellison, Jessica Elbaum, Katie Silberman, Chelsea Barnard, and David Distenfeld produced “Booksmart,” with Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Jillian Longnecker, Scott Robertson, and Alex G. Scott serving as executive producers.

If you like what you see, you can set a reminder to catch “Booksmart” when it hits theaters on May 24th. The big releases this weekend are “A Dog’s Journey,” “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum,” and “The Sun Is Also a Star.” Thursday previews had “John Wick 3” trending to top “Avengers: Endgame” this weekend, but we will have to wait until Sunday to see if Keanu Reeves can take down Thanos.
