The romantic drama “The Aftermath” now has a digital and Blu-ray release date. 20th Century Fox will release “The Aftermath” on digital on June 11th, followed by the Blu-ray and DVD release on June 25th.
Directed by James Kent, working from a script by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, the movie is set in 1946. The story follows Rachael Morgan (Keira Knightley), a British woman whose colonel husband (Jason Clarke) is charged with rebuilding war-ravaged Hamburg. When she joins him there during the bitter winter months, she learns they will be sharing their home with a German widower (Alexander Skarsgård) and his troubled daughter. Before long, the unusual arrangement intensifies political divides and stirs deep personal wounds. The studio teased the film adding, “In this increasingly charged environment, enmity and grief give way to unexpected passion and betrayal.”
“The Aftermath” did well in theaters, opening with the third-highest theater average back in March. The film made $56K across five locations and went on to make over $1.6M for the studio. The movie opened against “The Mustang,” “Wonder Park,” “Five Feet Apart” and “Captive State,” at a time when “Captain Marvel” was dominating the box office.
The film received mixed reviews. Currently holding a 28% from critics on Rottentomatoes, the movie has a very positive 72% rating from audiences. Fans of Keira Knightley can see her in the upcoming historical drama “Misbehaviour” from director Philippa Lowthorpe. That film features Jessie Buckley, Keeley Hawes, Suki Waterhouse, Keira Knightley, Greg Kinnear, and Emma Corrin .
