Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame” remained at number-one this weekend, fighting off Pikachu for Disney’s third win in a row at the weekend box office. Next week will be another challenge for the Marvel giant, as it battles “A Dog’s Journey” and “John Wick” in theaters nationwide.
Even with the great Pikachu on their heels, “Avengers: Endgame” won the weekend with $63M across 4,662 locations. Now in its third week in theaters, “Avengers: Endgame” has made over $723M domestically. “Avengers: Endgame” was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film features Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Karen Gillan, Paul Rudd, Josh Brolin, Brie Larson, Bradley Cooper (Voice), Elizabeth Olsen, Evangeline Lilly, Letitia Wright, Chadwick Boseman, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
“Pokemon Detective Pikachu” brought in over $58M across 4,202 locations this weekend. Rob Letterman directed “Detective Pikachu,” which stars Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, and Kathryn Newton.
The comedy “The Hustle” landed in third-place overall on the domestic charts, bringing in $13.5M across 3,007 locations. Chris Addison directed “The Hustle,” which stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson.
ScreenGem’s “The Intruder” dropped to fourth-place overall on the film’s follow up weekend. The thriller made $6.6M at 2,222 locations, bumping the film’s two week total to just under $21M domestically. Deon Taylor directed “The Intruder,” which stars Dennis Quaid, Meagan Good, and Michael Ealy.
“Long Shot” landed in fifth-place on the domestic charts with a $6.1M weekend across 3,230 locations. Now in its second week in theaters, the comedy has made $19.7M domestically. Jonathan Levine directed “Long Shot,” and the film stars Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen
Not making the top five but worth mentioning is “Poms,” which made $5.1M at 2,750 locations. Zara Hayes directed “Poms,” which stars Diane Keaton, Jacki Weaver, and Celia Weston.
“Tolkien” also hit theaters this week, bringing in $2.1M across 1,495 locations. Dome Karukoski directed “Tolkien,” which stars Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins.
As we mentioned earlier, the box office will be packed with new releases next week. Universal Pictures’ “A Dog’s Journey” is opening against “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” and Yara Shahidi’s “The Sun is Also Star.” It will be interesting to see which of the films, if any, takes down the Avengers.
