Lucy Hale’s “Riverdale” spinoff, “Katy Keene,” has been ordered to series at the CW. Hale made the confirmation this week on social media, telling followers, “KATY KEENE is officially picked up to series and I’m actually In tears. So excited about this next chapter. This show is all about hope and pursuing dreams and the friendships & relationships that bond it all.” Hale continued, “Actually can’t wait for you all to see this. Thank you.”

Katherine LaNasa, Sterling Knight, Zane Holtz, Ashleigh Murray, and Julia Chan are expected to join Hale in the first season of the show. The series comes from “Riverdale” creator and executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

The new series follows Keene after she leaves Riverdale with her friends to make their mark on the big city. While Keene is the fashionista of the group, the squad also includes singer/songwriter Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) of Josie and the Pussycats. Keen works as a personal shopper when she isn’t with her friends, who are hoping to become rockstars or Broadway stars.

This is Hale’s second series on the CW since “Pretty Little Liars” came to a close. Hale starred in “Life Sentence” in 2018, but that show only lasted one season. Hale then starred in the thriller “Truth or Dare” with Tyler Posey and Violett Beane, a movie that made over $95M worldwide. Hale also starred in “The Unicorn,” from director Robert Schwartzman, which also featured Lauren Lapkus and Nicholas Rutherford. The young star was also in the rom-com “A Nice Girl Like You,” from directors Chris and Nick Riedell, starring alongside Jackie Cruz and Mindy Cohn.

One of Hale’s biggest projects is the Sony/Blumhouse film “Fantasy Island.” Hale stars in the movie alongside Michael Pena and Maggie Q, and the movie is expected to release in theaters in February 2020.
